GT1 World enthralled throngs of spectators with a spectacular street demonstration race under lights at Beijing Olympic Park. Over 50,000 people lined the streets of the site of the 2008 Olympic Games to witness the GT1 World Supercars event - the finale to a two-week visit to China. Many more flocked to the nearest vantage point to catch a glimpse of a truly dramatic display. The GT1 cars ran over two free practice sessions with the climax being a demonstration race on a street layout which ran between the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube. A full race grid was formed before the start of the main event. In a seven-hour show, there were a series of activities for GT1's new-found fans while Chinese dignitaries and guests mingled in the VIP area. The Hexis AMR team came out on top in the GT1 Pit Stop Challenge, held in the purpose-built paddock in front of the famous Olympic Stadium. Second was the crew of JRM Nissan while home support enabled the Team China Corvette squad to take third place |
