GT Open International: Holzer and Rast compete in the GT Open with Manthey Racing.
Manthey Racing will have its debut in the International GT Open in the 2012 season. For the first year in the series the team of the former Carrera Cup Champion Olaf Manthey trusts in the skills of Porsche factory driver Marco Holzer and Supercup Champion René Rast. The two will be at the start with the new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
Olaf Manthey not only trusts in the race cars from Weissach, but also in the successful yellow/green layout which Manthey Racing is famous for in the German long distance championship as well as the 24h race at the Nürburgring. “This is the look in which our team snatched numerous overall wins, and so we hope our Porsche will be as distinctively on the international stage as well”, emphasises the experienced team manager, who at the end of the nineties won four team- and driver titles in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
”It was time to face a new challenge with Porsche!” Ten years after his last Supercup season Manthey Racing will participate with Porsche factory driver Marco Holzer and the reigning two-fold Supercup champion René Rast in the European GT Series. “I don’t have to talk about the qualities of Marco and René behind the wheel of a Porsche 911, the two are really successful top class drivers”, the team manager explains his drivers choice.
Manthey sees the advantage of the series in its so called “Balance of Performance”, which over the years has proven as a reliable technical factor of the regulations for the teams.”The only thing I don’t like is the fact that Ferrari dominates the series with 58 overall victories so far. Together with Porsche we want to stop that domination in the 2012 season. That’s why we have decided to race with the new RSR model”, says Manthey.
The international GT Open is an European GT racing series which was founded in 2006 from the organizers of the Spanish GT championship. One race takes place on Saturday and another one on Sunday. Since 2009 the upcoming series races with “Super-GT Cars” (according the GT2 regulations) as well as with “GTS Cars” (according the GT3 regulations). In the 2012 the GT-Open will also have a round in Germany for the first time, when the second round of the championship lure the fans to the Eifel Region at Nürburgring. That’s without a question a very special date in the schedule of the team Manthey Racing, because the yellow/green Porsche RSR will turn its laps being the local hero on the Nürburgring.
