The Ferraris fastest in very first (and humid) taste of 2012
27.04.2012
Philipp Peter was the fastest in today’s free practice of the opening round of the International GT Open. The Austrian of Kessel Racing posted his time on session 2, on an almost dry track. Rain and wind have invited themselves on and off to the Algarve. First session was completely wet and saw Raffaele Giammaria (Black Ferrari) in P1 beating the AF Corse Ferrari of Vilander and the Manthey Porsche.
In session 2, the Villorba Ferrari of Montermini was second-fastest, just 4 hundredths behind Peter, preceding the other Ferraris of Vilander and Giammaria. The best Porsche, the Manthey one of Holzer-Tandy, was 6th ahead of the Villois Aston.
In GTS, the best time was for the Goodsense Lambo of Teixeira-Cunha, competing in the Spanish GT Championship ahead of the Autorlando Porsche of Mapelli-Hamilton and the AF Ferrari of Bizzarri-Rizzoli.
35 cars are present in Portimão, with the main absence of the Veka Ferraris of Versluis-Buurman and Versluis-Pastorelli, which suffered some damage last week-end in the DSC and will join as from next round. The car of Ramos-Giammaria, on this race, is being prepared and entered by Black Team, the former EdilCris.
They said…
Marco Holzer (Manthey Porsche):“Iam very happy to be in the GT Open. I knew little of it but I have been watching footage and got advise from my friend Richard Lietz, and I now know it is a very competitive series”.
Johnny Mowlem (Giudici Lotus): “The car is pretty new, we just tested once, and we still have a lot of work to do, on the engine and on the rear, to get the right performance out of it.”
Andrea Montermini (Villorba Ferrari): “I am very satisfied of how things go and the way we work with my new team mate Cochito Lopez. We are still discovering the car, which arrived pretty late, but the times are there”.
Alvaro Barba (Villois Aston): “I am discovering the car here, I had some little problems to adapt yesterday, but now it is ok, and the car is very performing quite well”
Miguel Ángel De Castro (Drivex Porsche): “It’s really nice to be at the wheel of the new Porsche RSR. We still have a lot of progress and work to do, but we’ll get there.”
Soheil Ayari (the reigning Champion, by mail): “We wish you a very pleasant first round and season. I miss a lot the championship. Hoping to come back in a short future in the most attractive GT Championship, I wish my friends Pilet and Narac, will make shine the colors of France!”
