As previously announced, the Pescarolo Team has entered two cars for the next 24 Hours of Le Mans. The choice fell on two completely different cars; a Pescarolo 03, based on the late Aston Martin AMR1, and a closed prototype in association with Dome. Two drivers, Nicolas Minassian and Sebastien Bourdais, both former of Peugeot Sport, attended the unpacking of the car.

The Dome S102 was developed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 by the Japanese manufacturer that has devoted a large budget and a lot of time in design. Dome entered the prototype under its own name with a 100% Japanese crew, but although the white car showed its potential, the technical problems accumulated. Since 2008, the car has been on display in the lobby of Dome and Minoru Hayashi, the director, decided that the S 102 should be raced. Dome is a car manufacturer, it does not have a team that can operate the car, so he turned to Henri Pescarolo (see interview) and the Pescarolo Team.

The Japanese carmaker has (so far) no partnerships, having been burned in the past by financial disagreements. Dome decided to fully fund the program in 2012 with their own money and not seek any sponsors. Several practice sessions are scheduled so as not to repeat the mistakes of 2008 and two experienced drivers, both of whom have spent time before with the team of Henri Pescarolo, have already been announced: Nicolas Minassian and Sebastien Bourdais (in addition to his season in IndyCar). The third driver will be Japanese, as requested by Dome.

The Pescarolo Team took delivery of the car and parts yesterday at Le Mans. It should take the track next month before heading to Belgium for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and get back to his base for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Albert von Thurn und Taxis in the Lamborghini picks up again. In an interview with the ADAC says the ADAC GT Masters Champion of 2010, the goals for his fifth season in the "league of super sports cars."

Rule Changes Introduced to Spice Up LM P1 Manufacturer’s World Title in 2012
In a change to the original FIA World Endurance Championship regulations issued in December, only the highest finishing car in LM P1 will score championship points for the Manufacturer’s World Title at each of the eight rounds in 2012 and only the six best scores, which must include the points scored at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, will count towards the title. This means that Toyota, who are entering the Championship at Spa in May, will be able to take the challenge to Audi in 2012.

“The changes were requested following the withdrawal of Peugeot from the FIA World Endurance Championship last month and were agreed by all parties,” said FIA WEC CEO Gerard Neveu. “The changes will allow Toyota, who have brought forward their participation in the championship to round 2 in Spa, to fight with Audi for the inaugural World Endurance Championship Manufacturer’s title.

“These changes to the regulations will certainly make the 2012 season more exciting for both teams and spectators alike.”

The changes were agreed by the FIA Endurance Commission and ratified by the FIA World Council.

The regulations regarding the FIA World Endurance Driver’s Championship and the other titles are unchanged.

With 30 confirmed entries for 2012, the FIA World Endurance Championship will start in Florida on March 17 with the 60th edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring, one of the world’s leading endurance races. The FIA WEC will also visit Belgium, France, UK, Brazil, Bahrain, Japan and China.

ALMS winter test in Sebring: Racetrack debut for new 911 GT3 RSR
Porsche customer teams are right on schedule in their preparation for the season-opener of the American Le Mans Series at Sebring (14 – 17 March). At the test debut on the challenging concrete circuit in Sebring, drivers were unanimous in their praise for the handling of the new 911 GT3 RSR. “We are able to carry a lot more momentum through the fast corners,” said works driver Patrick Long enthusiastically. “The new RSR has much less understeer at the front axle and feels stiffer and altogether more balanced,” added his factory pilot colleague Marco Holzer. While the Flying Lizard Motorsports team continues to run on Michelin rubber, Falken Tire competes with their own Falken race slicks with Paul Miller Racing joining forces with Dunlop for the first time.

24 Hours at Daytona, USA: Triple victory after long distance sprint
The strongest grid in the history of the Daytona 24 Hours (28/29 January), a breathtaking in-house fight to the flag amongst Porsche pilots, and a victory and triple success for Porsche in the GT class. Porsche works driver Richard Lietz (AUT) won the 50th running of the classic on Florida’s east coast in the 911 GT3 Cup fielded by Magnus Racing with René Rast (GER) as well as Americans Andy Lally and John Potter. At the flag, a mere 9.4 seconds separated the Magnus 911 from Porsche works driver and last year’s winner Wolf Henzler (GER) at the wheel of TRG Racing’s 911 GT3 Cup which he shared with teammates Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED), Marc Goossens (BEL), Spencer Pumpelly and Steven Bertheau (both USA). Third place went to Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb (GER) who received reinforcement in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of the Daytona-winning squad Brumos Racing from Americans Hurley Haywood, Leh Keen and Andrew Davis. With 22 overall and now 74 class victories, Porsche holds a record in Daytona.

Porsche motorsport 2012: Nine works drivers race around the globe
Like in the last years, Porsche supports its most successful customer teams again in 2012 by providing works pilots. The driver line-up this year remains the same with Joerg Bergmeister (GER), Timo Bernhard (GER), Romain Dumas (FRA), Wolf Henzler, Marco Holzer, Marc Lieb (all GER), Richard Lietz (AUT), Patrick Long (USA) and Patrick Pilet (FRA). Amongst other series, the factory pilots will contest the FIA World Endurance Championship, the American Le Mans Series and the International GT Open as well as major long distance races.

Gulf 12 Hours: Porsche claims class win at endurance premiere
Success for Porsche customers at the “Gulf 12 Hours”, the first long distance race for Grand Touring vehicles on the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi (20 January). Sweden’s Mikael Bender, Johan Löfqvist and Patrik Skoog scored the Cup class victory at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup run by PFI Racing and secured sixth overall. The Porsche ran perfectly. Only Patrik Skoog experienced a fright when several opponents spun ahead of him in a very fast corner. After safely negotiating the high speed slalom, Skoog brought the 911 back to the pits for the driver change unscathed.

Youth scholarship programme: Carrera Cup Deutschland as career stepping stone
Porsche continues to expand its motorsport involvement with an international youth development scheme. Beginning in the 2012 season, two young pilots will receive support as Porsche Juniors in the Carrera Cup Deutschland series. Porsche provides most of the season’s budget, the drivers select their team themselves. A junior coach trains the youngsters off the track. In the second year, depending on their performance, the juniors have the chance to pit themselves against the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup regulars, with a new pair of talented youngsters getting the chance to launch their GT or sports car career in the Carrera Cup. The programme is initially planned to run for four years.

Carrera Cup France: WRC champion Sébastien Loeb fields own squad
The Matmut Carrera Cup France gets a celebrity boost: The eight-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb brings his own team to launch a three-car campaign for the title. Two young drivers have already been confirmed: 21-year-old Vincent Beltoise and Sacha Bottemanne (23, both FRA). The new season takes off with the first of six race weekends in Lédenon on 28/29 April. It is understood that Loeb himself is keen to compete in the European Le Mans Series at the wheel of an LMPC prototype.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia: Compact calendar for 2012
Six race weekends in six months between April and September – that’s the calendar for this year’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia. Two new race tracks have been added: Winton and the Queensland Raceway. 2012 marks the second year that extra points will be awarded at three races towards the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy. The season kicks off at Mallala Motorsport Park from 13 to 15 April.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East: Race debut in Qatar
A premiere for the 2009-inaugurated Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East: Having raced exclusively in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the series now travels to Qatar for the first time. Rounds nine and ten of the 2011/12 season are held on the Losail International Circuit on the 2/3 March. At the halfway point of the season, Abdulaziz Al Faisal holds a tenuous lead over his Saudi Arabian compatriot Bandar Alesayi. Next meet: Rounds seven and eight on the Reem International Circuit, Saudi Arabia, 15/16 February.

Ingolstadt, February 12, 2012 – The Audi race experience is starting into its third
season with several changes and has announced its program for 2012.
Five times fun and sport: The Audi race experience offers the brand’s sporty
customers an attractive program, featuring the first runs this year of the new Audi
R8 LMS ultra that has been subjected to technical improvements in many areas
compared with the R8 LMS. Josef “Sepp” Haider is the new sporting director of the
race team. The calendar for the 2012 has been set as well. Customers who are
interested in contesting races at the Nürburgring themselves have the choice
between five events: VLN round 3 (April 27 - 28), Nürburgring 24 Hours (May 18 -
20), VLN round 4 (June 22 - 23), VLN round 7 (August 3- 4), VLN round 10 (October

Beauty pageant: DTM driver Timo Scheider served on a select judging panel last
weekend. The two-time champion was one of eight judges at the Miss Vorarlberg
pageant. 800 attendees watched the selection of Lourdes Gomez as Miss Vorarlberg
2012 at the Festival House in Bregenz, Austria.
Man is faster than dog: Filipe Albuquerque has started his fitness program for the
2012 season with an unusual partner. The Portuguese found a 4-kilometer outdoor
running track in the area around Coimbra. Three times a week he takes his dog with
him on the first run around the track. As conditions get too hot for the Labrador the
Audi driver runs the second round without his dog. His record for the eight-kilometer
track: 37m 35s.

A word from ... Sepp Haider
You’re the new sporting director at Audi race experience. What are your
responsibilities?
“Obviously, I’m not entirely unfamiliar with the Audi race experience. I’ve been
working as an instructor for Audi’s large number of sporting customers ever since
the program was incepted. I’m delighted that in 2012 Audi entrusted me to run the
entire program. My task now is to offer our customers a perfect environment with a
professional race team and to ensure an unforgettable experience for them. Our
two new Audi R8 LMS ultra cars and the Nürburgring give us optimum prerequisites
for doing so.”
You’re offering the sportiest drivers of the brand as many as five opportunities for
a racing experience at the Nürburgring. What has been the response to this offer?
“Even before publishing the calendar we’d received numerous inquiries for this year.
That’s why only single places are left for VLN races number 4 and 7. The 24-hour
race at the Nürburgring will again be the pinnacle of the season. Those who wish to
drive with us should decide quickly.”
Who are the professional racers that will be assisting your participants at these
racing events?
“This year we’re again working with Florian Gruber, Frank Schmickler and Marco
Werner. Our program participants keep telling us that they’re thrilled by this
concept and that they can feel the progress they’re making with respect to their
own driving style. Conversely, our pros enjoy passing on their knowledge to Audi’s
sporty drivers.”
