ADAC GT Masters grid for 2012 is complete
44 super sportscars representing 13 brands compete in the new season.

The ADAC GT Masters grid for 2012 is complete. A record field of 44 super
sportscars representing 13 different brands tackle the ‘league of super sportscars’
at the opening round at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben between 30 March
and 1 April. The two remaining grid slots available went to the Dutch team DB
Motorsport which fields a pair of BMW Z4.
Grid positions for the ADAC GT Masters season 2012 were never in greater
demand. In the final weeks before the entry deadline more than 50 registrations for
the maximum 44 grid places available were received by the ADAC. The ADAC
awarded the final positions based on brand variety and sporting fairness to the
BMW team DB Motorsport. The Dutch team was a wild card entry at the ADAC
Masters Weekend in Assen last year.
A reserve list was established for the interested teams that could unfortunately not
be considered for the limited number of grid places. In addition, wild card entries at
individual ADAC Masters Weekends, subject to the capacity of the circuits and
track approval, are still possible.
The ADAC GT Masters 2012 sets new records as far as popularity and brand
variety are concerned with 44 super sportscars from 13 brands. Competing in the
ADAC GT Masters for the first time are the new McLaren MP4-12C with Formula 1
technology, the US muscle car Chevrolet Camaro and the legendary Japanese
sportscar Nissan GT-R. Aston Martin celebrates its comeback with the new V12
Vantage. The newcomers from England, Japan and the USA face up to the
competition from Audi, BMW, BMW ALPINA, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini,
Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
The 16 races of the ADAC GT Masters in 2012 are held once again during seven
ADAC Masters Weekends and in support of the ADAC Truck Grand Prix event at
the Nürburgring. The eight events, each with two races, are all held on permanent
circuits in Germany as well as the Red Bull Ring in Austria and in Zandvoort,
Holland and are again broadcast live on TV. Every super sportscar competing in
the ADAC GT Masters runs on high-performance tyres from new exclusive tyre
partner YOKOHAMA.

The ADAC GT Masters season 2012 schedule:

WTCC: THE NEW SEASON KICKS OFF IN MONZA

THE NEW SEASON KICKS OFF IN MONZA

The 2012 FIA WTCC kicks off this weekend at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Italy's temple of speed and one of the most glorious racetracks in the world.
This superfast circuit that is home to the Italian F1 Grand Prix, hosted the first ever WTCC event back in 2005. The championship paid a stop in Monza nearly every year since, with the exception of 2009, when the WTCC Race of Italy was temporarily moved to Imola.
WTCC is one of the favourite events for the enthusiastic Italian fans who always come to fill the grandstands in overtaking places such as the first chicane and the Ascari.
All the most competitive manufacturers have managed to win at Monza. SEAT's turbo diesel cars claimed an impressive streak of six consecutive victories between 2007 and 2009, BMW won three times and Alfa Romeo twice, while Chevrolet triumphed in the last three races, with Rob Huff scoring a double last year.
The race weekend will be opened on Thursday, March 8, by a full test day made of five one-hour sessions.

Rob Huff heads the field at the braking of the first chicane last year

A STRONG FIELD OF 25 DRIVERS
The new WTCC season will start in style, with a strong field of 25 drivers coming from 14 different countries and at the wheel of four models: Chevrolet Cruze, BMW 320, SEAT León and Ford Focus.
The latest additions were Tiago Monteiro, who joined Pepe Oriola at Tuenti Racing Team, Isaac Tutumlu, teaming with Mehdi Bennani at Proteam Racing and he duo Andrea Barlesi-Fernando Monje signed by SUNRED Engineering.
Although he entered for the season, Monje will race at Monza not in WCC, but in the FIA European Touring Car Cup.

THE CHAMPIONS
For the second consecutive year Yvan Muller and Chevrolet are the defending champions.
In 2011 the Cruze cars dominated the field re-writing all WTCC records and statistics, while Muller and his team-mates Rob Huff and Alain Menu filled the championship podium.
The question is: will they be able to repeat such a triumphant season?
"It is impossible to say now," Muller commented. "You may work a lot during the wintter, but until you face your competitors at the first event you don't know where you are. I know that we have done a good job and advanced a little bit compared to last year. But starting the season 40 kilos heavier than the rest of the field will complicate our life. As for the others, I cannot say how competitive they will be, although I'm sure that SEAT cars will be faster now that SEAT Sport is looking after them."

THE CHALLENGERS
The challenge for the rest of the field is dethroning double champions Muller and Chevrolet and competition on track is due to be even more exciting this year.
The arrival of Team Aon brings the Ford brand back to the championship for the first time after 2005; the team's Focus cars in the hands of young and talented British drivers Tom Chilton and James Nash appear to have a great potential.
2009 champion Gabriele Tarquini's and Tiago Monteiro's expectations to fight back for the world title have been strongly enhanced since he signed to race for the Lukoil Racing Team at the wheel of a SEAT León car fitted out with SEAT Sport's new 1.6-litre turbo engine that will also power the cars of Special Tuning Racing and SUNRED Engineering.
The list of is completed by a bunch of competitive drivers in BMW 320 TC cars, led by race winners Tom Coronel and Franz Engstler and the experienced Stefano D'Aste.

THE GREEN TIDE
One of the most interesting aspects of the new season is the significant rejuvenation of the competitors. Although touring car racing has always been considered as a category dominated by drivers in their forties, and even older, the 2012 WTCC is drastically reversing the trend.
For the first time half of the field is made up of drivers under-30, including a few promising teen-agers such as Pepe Oriola (17-years old) the youngest ever in WTCC, Alberto Cerqui (19) reigning champion of the Italian Superstars.
It is the proof that WTCC is now regarded as a serious alternative to formula cars in building a professional career and the championship may now welcome young racers coming from single-seaters such as Mehdi Bennani (World Series), Fernando Monje (F3 Open) and Pasquale di Sabatino (Auto GP).

THE CALENDAR
A truly global championship, the WTCC will visit twelve countries over four continents.
The new venues compared to the previous years are the modern Slovakia Ring, located nearby Bratislava, the superfast Salzburgring with its beautiful setting amid the Austrian mountains, Sonoma's spectacular Infineon Raceway that will host WTCC first ever visit to the USA, the Shanghai International Circuit, home to the F1 Chinese Grand Prix, and Marrakech's street circuit that reappears in the WTCC calendar after a one-year break, bringing the championship to North Africa for the third time.

THE KEY FACTORS
A few technical and sporting features might prove crucial in the fight for the titles.
ENGINE RELIABILITY - 2012 is the second season for the 1.6 turbo engines that were introduced last year, increasing performance significantly. The period of adjustment is over and now the new engines must last for the complete season, allowing a huge saving in terms of running budgets.
COMPENSATION WEIGHT - the system that allocates extra weight according to the cars' performance on the track will come into force from the third race meeting. However - following an agreement among the represented manufacturers - the Chevrolet Cruze cars (2011 champion model) will be laden in Monza and Valencia by the maximum ballast of 40 kilos.
QUALIFYING SYSTEM - not only the qualifying will award championship points to the top five drivers in Q2, but the whole system has been revised for adding thrill to Saturday's action. Twelve drivers instead of ten are now allowed to advance from Q1 to Q2 and fight for the top positions on the grid for Race 1. From this year the final results of Q2 are also deciding the grid of Race 2 that is drawn up by reversing the top-ten drivers classified.

EUROPEAN TOURING CAR CUP READY TO GO
The 2012 FIA European Touring Car Cup will kick off next weekend at Monza as well. The series will be also part of the WTCC events at Slovakia Ring (29 April) and Salzburgring (20 May) before being concluded by a stand-alone event at Imola (24 June).
Eligible cars are FIA Super 2000 (as per 2010 regulations, with 2.0L normally aspirated or turbodiesel engines), Super 1600, Super Production and Single Make Trophy.
A field of twenty-six cars will race at Monza in two back-to-back 50 km races on Sunday.
In the S2000 class Aytaç Biter, Petr Fulín and Igor Skuz are among the BMW drivers who will face Honda (Christian Fischer and Peter Rikli), Peugeot (Tim Gabór), SEAT (Ferran Monje) cars. An former WTCC Alfa Romeo 156 will be in the hands of Ferenc Ficza, 15-year old Hungarian, the youngest driver ever in ETCC.
A trio of Chevrolet Aveo cars run by Maurer Motorsport will fight against a platoon of Ford Fiesta in the S1600, while reigning champion Aleksandar Tosic (Honda) and Fabio Fabiani (BMW) will resume their fight in the Super Production. The field is completed by few SEAT León Cup cars in the new Single Make Trophy.

Lola B12/60 LMP1 car breaks cover

Lola B12/60 LMP1 car breaks cover
Lola today announce the launch of its 2012 LMP1 design - the Lola B12/60 that will compete in the inaugural FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the American Le Mans Series and European Le Mans Series this season.
Lola is building upon the successful foundations of its double title winning 2011 campaign when it took the ALMS and LMS manufacturers’ crowns. The Lola factory has been working solidly at its technical centre in Huntingdon, UK, to further enhance its LMP1 model for the 2012 season. Extensive development work over the winter in both aerodynamic and mechanical studies has produced a significantly different product for the 2012 season.

Lola Executive Chairman, Martin Birrane commented: "After a detailed aerodynamic development study over the autumn/winter period our LMP1 car has effectively had a re-design for the 2012 season. Our customers share Lola's vision and technical thirst for continuous improvement, so we believe that all our entries in the FIA WEC, ALMS and ELMS this year will again be competing for further silverware with the new-look Lola B12/60. I would like to wish all our customers a successful season."
Chris Dyson, team principal of Dyson Racing said of the new car that his team will race at Sebring: "Dyson Racing are really looking forward to a big step forward this season with the new Lola B12/60 LMP1 Coupe. It is really a clean sheet of paper approach in many respects. The new aerodynamic package looks very good indeed. The new design stresses to a far greater degree the weight advantage of our AER-designed 2.0 litre Mazda turbo engine--the lightest powerplant in LMP1. From the outset, we have packaged the weight distribution of the car to maximise improved aero capabilities. We knew the previous Lola so well that we can pinpoint from day one where we can improve, and hit the ground running. I just can't wait to get behind the wheel and start defending our ALMS championship."

Lola has at least seven confirmed entries for this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, while six Lolas are entered in the FIA World Endurance Championship opener at Sebring in 12 days time.

Exciting week for Audi Sport

Exciting week for Audi Sport

• Three new cars unveiled for factory program
• Mike Rockenfeller at Geneva Motors Show
• New generation of Customer racing race car is delivered

Ingolstadt, March 4, 2012 – Audi released a hoard of innovations in motor sport
within a single week. A new race car generation is ready for the 2012 season in
both the factory backed program with sport prototypes and touring cars as well as
in the customer racing sector.
A magnificent week: the Audi R18 e-tron quattro made its world premiere in front
of a large audience of industry specialists on Wednesday. Audi unveiled its first
hybrid sportscar for the World Endurance Championship (WEC) during the 2012
annual press conference in Munich. With the Audi R18 ultra a conventionally
powered sportscar also competes this season. The Audi A5 DTM was homologated
in its definitive form on Thursday and on Friday Audi Sport customer racing handed
over the Audi R8 LMS ultra to the first customers. The new GT3 sportscar succeeds
the Audi R8 LMS, which celebrated its 119th victory a week ago in Australia at the
12 hours of Bathurst.
Look into the future: Audi gave a detailed look into future technologies the evening
before the annual press conference. Audi ultra stands for lightweight design and
construction, Audi connect for networking with the environment and now Audi
mobility opens completely new approaches for individual mobility. The Audi R18 etron
quattro slotted seamlessly into the evenings proceedings. Head of Audi
Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich launched a piece of motor sport future when he
drove onto the stage in the new LMP sportscar with its almost silent electric drive.
Journey to Geneva: Mike Rockenfeller visits the Geneva Motor Show for Audi, where
the Audi factory driver is available for interviews and dialogue during the press day.

Customer racing digital: the new Audi Sport customer racing 2009, 2010, 2011
annual is now also available in electronic form. The recent success story of the Audi
R8 LMS is available for both the iPad and also for Android tablets.
Season opener in Australia: Mark Eddy/Warren Luff finished third in their Audi R8
LMS in the second race of the Australian GT Championship’s opening race weekend.
A word from ... Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich
Dr. Ullrich, for the first time an Audi race car is no longer powered exclusively by a
combustion engine. Are we standing on the threshold of a new era?
It’s clear that here at Audi Sport we are dealing with a completely new subject: the
electrification of the drive, an issue in which our colleagues from production are also
totally absorbed. In this respect a new era has in fact started – and as always Audi is
involved as pioneer from day one and, as a result, is trendsetter.
Audi last appeared at Le Mans with two different concepts in 1999. At that time it
was primarily a question of the bodywork, today the drive. Why the decision to
bring two types of car to the grid in 2012?
Quite simply, the TDI engine invented by Audi is still the most efficient drive in the
world. We’ve also proved this at Le Mans since 2006. It’s not a coincidence that
turbo diesel engines are unbeaten there for six years now, even though the diesel
cars were repeatedly limited. We are convinced that the TDI has even more
potential. This is why Audi not only supports the hybrid in motorsport and
production, but in parallel also the further development of the conventional drive.
The combination of TDI and hybrid is, however, without doubt particularly
interesting and very promising. This is exactly what the new Audi R18 e-tron quattro
stands for.
The R18 e-tron quattro is only at the beginning of its development. In your view
how much potential is combined with the energy recuperation?
The potential is certainly very big, since the entire subject of hybrid is still in its
infancy. There are many obstacles, the weight of an energy storage system suitable
for mass production for example. At the moment we still benefit enormously from
the groundwork done by our colleagues in the production advance development,
who have been studying the subject for a little longer. However, in this case I also
think that motorsport can accelerate development of a new technology. Over the
last few months many good ideas have already emerged, which we want to
implement in the future.

Motor sport was never a means to an end for Audi, but rather always served the
technical development of its product range. What contribution will the R18 e-tron
quattro be able to make?
That is correct. Audi has always consciously selected championships and categories
in racing that have a close relationship to production and therefore have technical
relevance for Audi customers. quattro, TFSI and TDI are three excellent examples of
how motor sport has stimulated production development. A similar tendency is
apparent with the e-tron quattro: we test a completely new technology on the race
track before it’s introduced to the Audi production line. Efficiency and lightweight
design and construction are particularly important in motor sport. It’s exactly this
aspect of a hybrid vehicle that provides so much development potential, where one
or the other point could possibly be exploited a tic faster due to our Le Mans
involvement.
Progress must also be welcomed – and from those who draft the regulations.
What chances and risks does the current classification of the R18 e-tron contain?
The ACO and FIA are faced with a very difficult task here. The more different
technologies there are in the game the more difficult it becomes to correlate them
all. The biggest problem is that the Audi and Peugeot diesel cars were in a class of
their own over the last few years – and not just because the TDI is the world’s most
efficient engine, but also because no other competitor developed an LMP1 car with a
gasoline engine to a similar level of detail and know-how. For this reason the diesel
was trimmed again for the 2012 season, so that from our point of view the diesel is
now at a real disadvantage on paper. We are, however, prepared to face this
challenge and are convinced that the ACO and FIA will make the right decisions for
the future. As far as the hybrid issue is concerned we can easily assess the pros and
cons through our two-pronged approach, since the base of the R18 ultra and R18 etron
quattro really is identical. The hybrid system alone makes the difference. The
ACO and FIA will receive particularly meaningful data from us.

08–18.03 Geneva (CH), Motor Show
